Is Vietnam visa-free for Indians?
No. Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa before they fly to Vietnam. The Embassy of India in Hanoi says Indian nationals should have a preapproved visa. (Embassy of India, Hanoi — checked 2026-11-04) Vietnam's exemption list marks India for diplomatic and official passports only. (Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs — checked 2026-11-04) Most Indian travelers use the eVisa. The one way in without a visa is a stay limited to Phu Quoc, up to 30 days.

What the official pages say
Three government pages answer this, and they agree. We read all three on 4 November 2026.
We found no official notice of a visa-free scheme for Indian tourists. If you read that this has changed, look for the notice on a .gov.vn or .gov.in page before you book.
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Embassy of India, Hanoi, page updated 29 October 2026 | Indian nationals should have a preapproved visa, from Vietnam's Embassy or Consulate General in India, or as an e-visa. |
| Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs list, article dated 30 June 2025 | India appears for diplomatic and official passports, 90 days. The ordinary passport column is blank. |
| Embassy of Vietnam, New Delhi | Travelers entering Vietnam, for any purpose, need a valid visa before traveling. |
Can Indians get a visa on arrival?
Not the kind you buy at the airport with no paperwork. The Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi calls pre-approved visas on arrival "available but considered case-by-case", and says you must book your flight and hotel before you request one. It describes the request as one you make at the Embassy. (Embassy of Vietnam, New Delhi)
Private agents sell a similar route: an approval letter from a sponsor, which you take to a counter at the airport. We do not sell it. The differences are here: eVisa or visa on arrival.
Your airline checks documents at check-in, so do not fly counting on a counter in Vietnam to solve it.
The Phu Quoc exception
Foreign passports, Indian included, can enter Phu Quoc island without a visa for up to 30 days. (Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs) The Embassy in New Delhi says this also covers a traveler who transits through an international checkpoint on the way to the island. (Embassy of Vietnam, New Delhi)
It covers the island only. If you plan to see Hanoi, Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City on the same trip, you need a visa from the start. Layovers are covered here: Vietnam visa for a layover.
How long the eVisa takes: two different figures
The Embassy in New Delhi writes that an eVisa is processed "within 05 – 30 working days" and advises applying 7 to 40 working days before you leave. That page carries dates from 2024 and 2025. (Embassy of Vietnam, New Delhi: e-visa) Other official pages give a shorter figure: the US State Department says 3 to 5 working days (US State Department), and the portal itself lists 3 working days for a complete, paid application.
So plan on 3 to 5 working days, and treat that as normal, not as a promise. Holidays and correction requests add time. With a flight inside a week, see the cut-offs in Indian time: Compare urgent eVisa tiers and ICT cut-offsindia/.
The government fee is US$25 single entry or US$50 multiple entry. It is not refunded. Your bank converts it to rupees at its own rate.
Before you apply from India
The Embassy in New Delhi names evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn as the portals and says all other websites are invalid. (Embassy of Vietnam, New Delhi: e-visa) Other sites cannot issue a visa. Private agents, InTimeVisa included, file on that portal for a fee and are not the government.
If you are going to work rather than visit, the Embassy of India advises having your job contract, work permit, residence card or the right visa in place first. (Embassy of India, Hanoi)
